About The Program

The Performing Arts at RDC boasts 5 renowned programs including: Theatre Acting, Technical Production, Motion Picture Arts in Acting & Production and Music.

Our 2-year diploma in Acting provides students with the knowledge, skills, and production experience required by the highly competitive vocations in the Performing Arts.  Training in text analysis, movement, voice, and scene study as well as opportunities to be involved in stage and film productions will give students a strong foundation in the discipline.  Masks, radio, voice-over, stage combat, singing, musical theatre, dance, solo performance, and physical theatre are just a few of the areas that our acting students delve into over the two year period.  Nationally recognized guest artists are invited to RDC each year to further enrich the acting student's experience.  In addition as part of your training, in conjunction with the Theatre Society, we offer workshops in areas such as makeup, stage combat, first aid, pyrotechnics, audition techniques, film and television, and so on.  All of this is enhanced by related courses in theatre history, play analysis, and film studies, as well as liberal arts offerings ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education.

Scholarships

RDC awards approximately $300,000 annually in scholarships. Of that, $9,000 is exclusive to Theatre Studies students. In addition, continuing students are also eligible for further scholarships. RDC Theatre Production Company

All Theatre Studies students are active members of our resident production company. Our commitment to produce a season of challenging plays from a variety of styles and historical periods provides valuable practicum experience to our students as well as complimenting the vibrant Arts Scene in Red Deer and College Life. The RDC Theatre Production Company has a well-deserved reputation as a leader in theatrical innovation, exploration and excellence.



Arts Centre at RDC

The Arts Centre complex is the base for Theatre Studies, Music, Motion Picture Arts and Conservatory programs.  Using the top theatre consultants in North America has ensured that the Arts Centre is one of the finest performing arts facilities in any college in Canada. This superior complex includes a Mainstage 576-seat proscenium theatre with a fly tower soaring seven stories high, four large rehearsal/ dance/ performance studios, two ensemble rooms, drafting room, recording studio, scene and costume shops, and 11 practise rooms with pianos.
