Artstrek: The Residential Summer Theatre Program for Teens
Red Deer, June 24, 2011 – Red Deer College is pleased to offer Artstrek – the residential summer theatre workshop for teens co-sponsored by Theatre Alberta and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts – from July 10 – 24.
This long running program focuses on exploring components of theatre and theatre production over the course of two weeks: Exploration I (July 10-16) and Exploration II (July 17-24).
Over the course of each week students explore acting, voice, movement, directing, sound/music, design, creation and integration. Instructors at Artstrek represent some of Alberta’s finest theatre artists and drama educators. This team of theatre professionals is responsible for developing and instructing a challenging theatre arts curriculum. Each year a new play is chosen and this year students will discover the madcap world of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s “You Can’t Take It With You”. An American Theatre classic, this 1937 Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the fun-loving Sycamore family and their whole-hearted pursuit of happiness. Featuring zany characters charming wit and hilarious hi-jinks, this play is guaranteed to be memorable for students.
Culminating each week of Artstrek will be a sharing of play excerpts with family, guests and the public. The first public sharing will take place on Saturday, July 16 at 10:00am and the second on Sunday, July 24 at 10:00am. Both days will take place on the Arts Centre Mainstage. Admission is free of charge.
