RDC Performing Arts Launches 25th Anniversary Celebration of Arts Centre with Alberta Arts Days
Red Deer, September 21, 2011 – Red Deer College invites you to attend the launch of our year-long 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Arts Centre by attending a series of family-friendly cultural activities and free shows.
The RDC Arts Centre 25th Anniversary Celebration Weekend is Friday, September 30 – Sunday, October 2 and includes the following events:
An afternoon Master Class | Studio C
Friday, September 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
Targeted to RDC music and high school students, this master class will provide an opportunity for individuals to learn about the roles and trials of creating and producing an album of original works.
Alumni on Stage | Mainstage
Friday, September 30, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
CD Release featuring Curtis Phagoo & the Heartbroke Heroes. Recorded and produced in central Alberta, this event launches the original CD release of this Alberta based group that started with two RDC alumni and a ukulele on a bitter cold winter day in Whitehorse. This evening showcases alumni and special guests featuring Craig Aikman, Jason Torwalt, Josh Rickard and 25-year alumnus, Ross Stafford.
Community on Stage | Mainstage
Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
Featuring the winners of the Performing Arts Open Call Competition this summer, members of the community will be featured on the Arts Centre Mainstage. The evening includes special guest alumnus MC, Tim Tamishiro.
Family at Stage | Mainstage
Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
An interactive family event that will cultivate a performing arts appreciation by children. This includes opportunities to sit with the Symphonic Winds and a special guest performance with Ian Lemaistre and family. Join us after the concert for a musical petting zoo where children will have the opportunity to see and try musical instruments and interact with physical theatre performers.
The Canola Project Experiment 4: Harvesting | Downtown Red Deer
Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.
The Canola Project Experiment 4: Harvesting is an interdisciplinary showcase in downtown Red Deer featuring RDC faculty, alumni and special guests from across Alberta. The project aims to bring community together through theatrical presentations that illuminate the effect that farm practices have on humans and the geographical landscape of our region. Some of the artists behind The Canola Project are: Lynda Adams, Mieko Ouchi, Bretta Gerecke, Gerry Tentham and many more.
Meet at Veteran’s Park (Corner of Ross Street and 49th Avenue). The evening will take attendees to several other locations from there. Please dress weather appropriate.
After each Mainstage performance there will be receptions in the lobby with refreshments.
RDC is excited to host these celebration events in conjunction with Alberta Arts Days.
All performances are open to the public and are free of charge with a donation to the Students’ Association Food Bank and Red Deer Food Bank. Seats are on first come first serve basis.
