RDC Performing Arts Presents Its First Concert of the Year

Red Deer, September 15, 2011 – RDC Performing Arts will feature its talented music faculty and their families in its first concert of the year on Friday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. on the Arts Centre Mainstage. “A Family Affair” is the inaugural concert of the 2011/12 concert series.
The evening of music includes performances by children of faculty members who are alumni of the College’s Music Program.

Percussionist and faculty member Malcolm Bell will perform Gershwin’s “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” with alumna Jaclyn Bell as a father-daughter duet on marimba and vibraphone. Former faculty member Steve Tanner will join them on bass to perform Chris Baron’s “M.”

Husband and wife duo Steve and Val Sherman will be joined by alumna daughter Nikki Toews on trumpet. Annette Bradley and Dale Wheeler will perform a suite for two pianos entitled Scenas Infantis by Octavio Pinto based on various children’s songs.

A highlight of the evening will be a presentation of the world premiere of Ruston Vuori’s latest composition “Night.”

The program also includes chamber music featuring the guitar. Shannon Frizzell will perform Benda’s “Sonata G Major” with Val Sherman and a set of Rodrigo’s Spanish folksongs with mezzo-soprano Sharon Braun.

Rounding out the program will be a set by the Faculty Jazz, including the jazz standard Take 5.
