RDC Supports Women of Excellence
Lyn Radford and Marian George Awarded at Women of Excellence Gala
Red Deer, June 23, 2011 – Red Deer College supports the leadership and strengths of its people and this year’s Red Deer & District Community Foundation Women of Excellence Awards recognized two of our very own at last week’s gala.
Marian George, RDC Nursing Instructor, received the Women of Excellence in Education and Training Award. Lyn Radford, a member of the RDC Board of Governors’, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Lyn Radford is a dedicated wife, mother, daughter, and friend, as well as a valued community member who thrives on giving back wherever needed. Lyn shares her values with people in our community on a daily basis, developing new community volunteers in the process. She is an advocate for children, the Aboriginal community and those who are not able to challenge the system for themselves. Lyn is known in Red Deer as a lady who makes things happen with unmatched determination to follow a project through to success.
“There are different aspects of my volunteer work that centers around Red Deer College. I make a conscious effort to include education in my volunteer role as I feel that education is a strong solution for a strong community. RDC is an integral part of our community and I feel so privileged to be part of their vision planning!” shares Lyn.
Marian George trained as a Registered Nurse, and has worked at RDC in the Nursing Department for nearly nine years. Currently, she is teaching in the U of A Collaborative BachSc in Nursing program and is enrolled in Doctor of Education, Specialization in High Education Leadership at UofC. Marian’s greatest fulfillment is inspiring students in their own professional pursuits and asking lots of questions along the way.
“For me the greatest thrill I receive is having the opportunity to be a part of students’ lives within the nursing department. I believe that the women in the RDC faculty are all women of excellence for our work. A plaque in my office quotes ‘Wisdom begins in wonder.’ I believe in asking questions of students to help them reach higher,” says Marian.
RDC congratulates Lyn and Marian for their professional achievement and contributions to the College.
