RDC Theatre Program Presents Fuente Ovejuna by Felix de Vega

Red Deer, September 29, 2011 – The RDC Theatre Program is proud to present Fuente Ovejuna as its first theatrical performance of the 25th Anniversary year.

Based on a true story, the small happy Spanish village of Fuente Ovejuna (translation: “The well where sheep drink”), is terrorized by a sadistic military commander. Forced to fight for their freedom, the townspeople conjure up ferocious courage and a powerful display of community in a desperate attempt to overcome tyranny.

The play takes place during the time of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, who play key roles in an attempt to bring justice to the town. This passionate play dramatizes the abuse of power and its dangerous consequences. It shows us the potential of common people to take command of their own destiny.  The results are surprising and uplifting!

Written by Felix de Vega and translated by Richard Sanger, Fuente Ovejuna is directed by Jeff Page, designed by Daniela Masellis, with costume coordination by Donna Jopp.  The set and costumes are heavily influenced by the hot Spanish sun and the vibrant colours of the Mediterranean.
