RDC Theatre Program Presents Toad of Toad Hall by Philip Goulding

Red Deer, November 15, 2011 – The RDC Theatre Program is proud to present Toad of Toad Hall as its first Mainstage production of the 25th Anniversary year.

The play is an adaptation of the classic children’s book Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.  The story follows the madcap adventures of the wealthy Mr. Toad who is arrested for stealing a motorcar.

Goulding’s 1999 adaptation of the original story has been hailed by critics as an “utterly charming, endearing little tale that touches on themes of humility, generosity and the value of true friendship.”

In the play, Mr. Toad’s three friends Ratty, Mole, and Badger help the irrepressible and irresponsible Toad on a daring campaign to battle the weasels and regain Toad Hall.

The play is directed for the stage by Lynda Adams and promises to be fun for the whole family.  Adults and children can look forward to a thrilling adventure with a jailbreak, the battle for Toad Hall, and a car and train that travel on stage.  The set, designed by Carrie Hamilton, is a visual feast that centres around a riverbank and the surrounding countryside. The entire theatre is used in the production as a backdrop for the adventures of Toad, Badger, Ratty and Mole.

A play with music, Toad of Toad Hall features eight songs composed by Tony Award-winning Greg Morrison.  Local theatre artist and music director, Matt Gould, brings the music to life for a production “Jam-packed with thrills and spills, jokes and songs.”
