Red Deer College recognizes Dr. Paulette Hanna as G.H. Dawe Memorial Award Recipient

Red Deer, June 3, 2011 – Red Deer College is pleased to recognize Dr. Paulette Hanna as this year’s recipient of the G.H. Dawe Memorial Award of Excellence. Dr. Hanna is being recognized for her commitment to education, leadership and the community of Red Deer.  She currently is the Chief Superintendent of Schools for the Red Deer Catholic Regional Division.

In an era where heroes and great mentors are needed more than ever, Paulette Hanna has risen to the challenge to lead and educate. Holding a variety of leadership roles within the education sector, Paulette has excelled with a genuine and sincere heart to build positive results in the school system.  

Her leadership has touched organizations across the province and country, and her impact on student learning and advancing education in the twenty-first century has been considerable. Paulette is a champion advocate and leader for education at the local, zone, provincial and national level.

RDC is pleased to honour Dr. Hanna at its 47th Convocation Ceremonies on June 3 as the latest G.H. Dawe Memorial Award recipient. 

The G.H. Dawe Memorial Award is presented each year at the Red Deer College Convocation Ceremonies to a community member who best exemplifies the values of the late Mr. George Harold Dawe (1910 – 1999). The recipient has demonstrated excellence in characteristics held by Mr. Dawe including:

• Commitment to community, education and student success
• Prominent leadership in the community
• Uncommon warmth with high integrity and ethical standards
• Dedication to and appreciation for Red Deer College

The College fondly remembers Mr. Harold Dawe for his contribution to the institution and to education in general. He helped establish Red Deer College in 1964 and held the position of its first administrative officer. He also served the students as a sessional instructor in the community education department for many years. His commitment and dedication to education was outstanding and will serve as a model of lifelong learning for decades to come.

The G.H. Dawe Memorial Award was established in 1999 and is presented annually. Previous recipients of the award are:

Media are invited to attend RDC’s Awards Presentation for photo opportunities and speeches beginning at 12:45 p.m. in the Palermo and Savona Rooms, Capri Centre. Recipients of this year’s awards will be in attendance at this Presentation.
