OUR LOGO

Everything that we do as an institution – from the programs we offer to the way that we talk about them – is anchored in our corporate vision, mission and values. The logo is no exception.

The new RDC logo was designed to serve two purposes: to reflect the attributes associated with the College as documented in the Brand Strategy and to communicate the unique promise of the RDC educational experience.

The logo is comprised of two parts – the letterform and the arc. The arc partially ‘embraces’ the letterform reflecting the nurturing nature of the RDC environment. It doesn’t “house” or constrain the letterform but embraces it, protects it, shields it. The arc denotes a number of attributes prevalent in the research: energy, momentum, and movement. It also echoes the soft rolling hills of Central Alberta and the gentle sunrise that peeks over the horizon on a fresh new morning. The arc symbolizes the future – possibilities and new opportunities.

The RDC font contrasts the soft embracing nature of the arc. The sans serif font is professional without being rigid, relaxed without being loose. The absence of flourishes, swirls and complex elements reflects the practical, genuine character of the College. The compressed linear nature of the font renders it approachable and friendly and the mid-tone weight enforces stability without being clunky.

The colour choices of black and green also reflect the balanced approach of the College. Black is the colour of power and authority. It is confident, consistent, and no-nonsense. Green is a colour that communicates success but at the same time denotes, balance, calmness, nature, and harmony. The medium tone green chosen for the logo is timeless – a practical, sustainable choice that won’t date over time. The depth of the green is bold without being overpowering, youthful without being immature. Green, fundamentally, communicates energy and new growth … the promise of RDC.

Our official tagline is “when you get here you understand”.
This phrase represents, in a single statement, the promise of the unique and genuine RDC experience. The tagline is used in association with the logo in a broad range of marketing and promotional materials.

Connected: RDC offers a warm and social environment. As soon as you step foot on campus, people greet you by name. We are connected to one another through common goals and aspirations, connected to the community by our promise to serve their needs, connected to the urban centres of Calgary and Edmonton by the highway and connected to the world through technology. We actively maintain, nurture and grow relationships we have with our community, students, alumni, donors, faculty and staff.

Practical: RDC is the perfect choice for students who believe that their education should be a practical investment in their future. We offer a quality education that provides good value for money. We employ an interactive learning methodology while respecting the requirements for academics. We teach our students how to “do” and how to think. We are a logical and affordable choice for students looking for a more intimate learning environment in an affordable and safe city. Our classes are small because small classes make for better learning. Our instructors are good teachers because learning is why you go to college in the first place.

Sustainable: RDC is committed to being a sustainable institution from both a business perspective and an environmental perspective. We adapt to the changing economic and educational landscape by offering the latest in required programming, ensuring we always offer the courses that students are seeking and business require.
