Outreach Program - Additional Information

Certificate Program (Equivalent to Level II - Child Development Worker):

We offer certificate courses through blended delivery. This type of distance delivery combines two Saturday seminars per course at RDC, with course module work and online instruction. Courses are offered in fall, winter and spring terms. These courses are scheduled over a two cycle, therefore a student typically needs at least 2 years to complete a certificate by distance.

Diploma Program (Equivalent to Level III - Child Development Supervisor):

We offer diploma courses through eCampus. These courses are online and students must make arrangements to write a final exam in each course. They are offered in fall, winter and spring terms and are scheduled over a two cycle, therefore a student typically needs at least 2 years to complete a diploma by distance. You must have an ELCC certificate from an accredited college to register for the diploma program.

Practicum:

There are two practicum courses in both the certificate and diploma years of the ELCC program. These courses are a set number of hours of practical experience in work settings involving young children. You can take 3 of the 4 practicum experiences in your own place of employment. Practicum courses in the certificate program are 4-credit courses and in the diploma program they are 5 credits. Students must first obtain permission from the Practicum Coordinator before registering for Practicum as some conditions apply.  To contact the Practicum Coordinator please call 342-3226 and ask for the Practicum Coordinator.

Communication Course:

In order to graduate in the ELCC Certificate Program, students require Communications 150 or 250 as part of their program. These courses are offered each year through distance delivery both online and by correspondence. Click here for information on when these courses are held.
