Future Students Information
Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
While not an admission requirement for the program, applicants are advised that they will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check to most agencies where they will be placed for practicum experiences. The existence of a Criminal Record may prevent practicum placement, program completion, professional licensure and therefore affect future employment prospects. It is the decision of each agency or institution to accept or reject a student for placement or observation experience based on the results of the criminal record check.
If you have a criminal record or have questions about this process, please contact Tammy Syrnyk, Alberta Health Services (AHS) Student Strategies at 780-608-8839 or
tammy.syrnyk@albertahealthservices.ca For the purpose of Placement, if your Criminal Record Check registers as ‘unclear’ or ‘not clear’ you will be referred to Alberta Health Services Human Resources – Student Strategies.
As Criminal Record Checks and Vulnerable Sector Checks are only valid for 90 days please have a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check completed at your home police detachment within 30 days of the first day of class.
Note:
A processing fee may be charged to complete the check(s).
Students are required by Alberta Health Services to provide Red Deer College (RDC) with a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check one time provided you maintain continuous enrolment at RDC. Other agencies used for placement may require a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check at other points in your program. Students are expected to report to RDC any change in their Criminal Record Check status due to criminal conviction throughout their continuous enrolment.
