"After I graduated high school in 2009, I decided to attend Red Deer College and take the Office Technology program. I knew that it was something I would enjoy. The program seemed interesting. I knew I would learn much and it was achievable because it was only a one year program. I was determined to succeed and after completing the required practicum, I was determined I would score a job.

I was fortunately able to complete my practicum with NOVA Chemicals and I graduated Spring of 2010 NOVA agreed to take on two students. During my practicum, I mostly did work for two specific individuals. As it turned out, the longer I was there, the more my determination, willingness to learn, and ability to catch on quickly became evident. By the time my practicum was over, I was approached and asked if I would be willing to work a summer position as a contractor. I was thrilled and agreed. By the time the end of summer came around my contract was extended to the end of the year. In January, I was hired on as a base contractor (long-term) and became a Document Control Specialist. This position is quite different from an Associate position but I realized that I enjoy it more. I am told it takes 18 months to become fully trained and I am looking forward to the journey I have ahead of me. I knew that if I got my foot in the door, I would work my way to where I wanted to be. I am proud of my accomplishments and thankful that I chose this program. I know that the knowledge and skills I gained can be used with any job I choose down the road. I have also gained a few friendships with classmates that have made a significant impact on my life. Its been a great journey so far!"

The VA Certificate program offered at RDC gave me the foundation I required to begin and grow a virtual assistant business. It was easily accessible from my own home, which made it a viable option for me. Being able to complete the certificate over two years was also a feature that worked into an already busy schedule. I graduated from the program in 2007. I own and operate E-Works Office Services and began providing my clients with online business services before I even graduated!”

"The Office Technology Program was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Going through the program gave me a strong foundation with the skills I need to work in whatever field I choose. The instructors are amazing and go well beyond what is expected or required. I have also found there is a kinship between office tech grads; be it from 2 years ago or twenty you always have great stories to share and a strong education employers can count on."

"I have had the pleasure of being able to work with the practicum students from the Virtual Assistant Program at RDC.  They have all been eager to work and communicate online within a virtual team environment.  With a smooth transition, they have learned to carry their administrative skills from an online classroom to a virtual working world in the VA industry."
