Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) - The Association's primary focus is
representing its members throughout the province, disseminating information, lobbying, marketing on their behalf, and advocating for increased funding for the development and production of film and television projects in the province.

Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society (AMAAS) - is a not-for-profit society dedicated to foster the common objectives of Alberta's diverse media arts organizations and artists in the areas of promotion and education.

Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF)- The Mission of CSIF is to encourage, support, and endorse the production and exhibition of film in an artistic, social and cultural context.

Canadian Film & Television Production Association (CFTPA)- The goal at the CFTPA is to promote and stimulate the Canadian production industry. They negotiate and manage labour agreements, and actively lobby the federal and provincial governments on various policy areas including taxation, trade, copyright, broadcasting, and film. Their National Mentorship Program trains young people to meet the demands of this evolving industry. They also publish and sell GUIDE, Canada's production industry directory.

Film and Video Arts Society (FAVA)- A non-profit artist-run film and video arts society serving Albertans. Their mission is to facilitate and encourage the production and exhibition of independent film and video works.

Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS)- Mandated to support and encourage the production of innovative independent animation and to develop the appreciation of all types of animation as a viable artistic medium.

Women In Film & Television - Alberta (WIFTA)-Promotes and assists the professional development, equitable treatment, recognition of achievements and the creation of new opportunities for professionals, especially women in the film, video, multimedia and television industries.

Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA)- A national association of independent film, video and new media producers, distributors, and exhibitors from all parts of Canada.

National Screen Institute of Canada (NSI)- Called a "school without walls." Instead of bringing students to a single facility, NSI takes its variety of programs on the road, delivering them in major centers in every region of the country.

Government Film Resources

Alberta Film - Created to provide an efficient one-window approach to serve local, national and international filmmakers. Alberta Film brings together two provincial departments - Alberta Economic Development and Alberta Community Development -- in support of the film industry. This website is a great resource for staying current with the Alberta Film Industry. It has the latest locations, productions, funding, and much more.

Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA)- supports creative activity in the performing, visual, literary and film/video arts disciplines, and assists in the development of the cultural industries in Alberta. In addition to the grant programs and competitions, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts also provides support to a variety of other programs and services for the benefit of the cultural community.

Calgary Film Commission/ Economic Development Calgary- committed to helping you find the perfect location for your next production. Services include location assistance, logistics assistance, assistance with local government, councils and companies, script breakdown, liaison with local unions and guilds, one stop permit applications for shooting in the Calgary Region. The website includes a list industry links for shooting in the city.

Edmonton Film Commission/ Edmonton Tourism - The Edmonton Film Commissioner works closely with the Alberta Film Commission located in Edmonton.

British Columbia Film Commission- a branch of the provincial government, maintains an on-line registration system for all productions planning to do business in British Columbia.

SaskFilm - was established to stimulate and foster the development of an indigenous film, video and interactive industry and attract visiting production to the province through the administration of the Saskatchewan Film Employment Tax Credit Program.

Yukon Film & Sound Commission- created to support a sustainable and competitive film and sound recording industry.

Telefilm Canada- a federal cultural agency dedicated primarily to the development and promotion of the Canadian film, television, new media and music industries. Telefilm Canada reports to the Department of Canadian Heritage.

National Film Board of Canada (NFB) - The NFB's mandate is to produce and distribute distinctive, culturally diverse, challenging, and relevant audiovisual works that provide Canada and the world with a unique Canadian perspective. The NFB provides a variety of training, funding, and distribution support.

Guilds & Unions

Alberta District Council of The Director's Guild of Canada (DGC)- Part of a national labour organisation which represents key creative and logistical personnel in the film and television industries. Membership categories covering all areas of production, design, and editing including: Director, Production Manager, Assistant Director, Production Designer, Art Director, Picture Editor, Sound Editor, Production Assistant, and much more.

Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA- Alberta)- A member of the federation of ACTRA Unions. ACTRA represents performers working in the jurisdiction of recorded and new media. This jurisdiction includes (and is not limited to) feature film, television, radio, commercials, internet interactive media, audio recordings, etc.

International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada (IATSE 210 Edmonton)- Is the labour union representing technicians, artisans and craftspeople in the entertainment industry, including live theatre, motion picture, and television production, and trade shows. IATSE Local 210 shares jurisdiction of the entire Province of Alberta with Local 212 in Calgary.

International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada (IATSE 212 Calgary)- Local 212 proudly provides the Entertainment Industry with some of the finest Technicians, Artists and Craftspeople Canada has to offer. Local 212 shares jurisdiction of the entire Province of Alberta with Local 210 in Edmonton.

International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada (IATSE 669)- The jurisdiction of this Local is Western Canada, being the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Yukon, and Northwest Territories of Canada. 669 represent the following job categories: Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Steadicam Operator, all Camera Assistants, Still Photographer, and many other film and video positions.
