Piano Competition

The Great RDC Piano Giveaway

Are you a Central Alberta1 piano student, aged 8-17?  Would you like a chance to win a free piano?  If so, Red Deer College has the contest for you!  We’re celebrating our 25th Anniversary here at the Red Deer College Arts Centre, and as part of the festivities, we’ll be giving away a beautiful Suzuki HG 425e digital grand piano (provided by a generous donor) to a deserving young piano student.

Sounds great!  How do I win?

You will need to complete an application package and send it to us before the February 15th, 2012 deadline.  The application can be found on our website and consists of the following:

1)  A 100-200 word statement describing why you feel you deserve to win.  This may be submitted in video format if you prefer.  Tell us what music means to you and what you have accomplished in your studies thus far.

2)  An audio or video recording of you playing two contrasting works.  Be sure to send us polished performances to give yourself the best chance of being selected as a finalist!  The total duration of the performances should not exceed 15 minutes.

3)  A letter of reference from your piano teacher, who should indicate why he or she feels you would make a deserving winner of the prize.

4)  A parental consent form, which will ensure that your parents/guardians know that you are trying to win a grand piano and have a place to put it if you do.

All the applications we receive on time will be adjudicated by an impartial party from outside the Central Alberta region, and five finalists will be chosen.  The finalists will be invited to the Arts Centre on Saturday, March 24th, 2012 to attend the RDC music department’s year-end show, That’s Entertainment!, where the winner will be selected by a draw.  If you like what you see at the show, you may consider studying with us in the future – the winner of this contest will also be offered one term of free piano lessons if he or she chooses to enrol in the RDC music diploma program in the future!

So mark your calendars, work hard on your repertoire, and ask yourself why YOU deserve a grand piano, and we may be welcoming you to our campus for the big draw this spring.

Good luck!
