About the Program
Music Diploma
Our two-year diploma program in Music provides students with the broad blend of education and experience required for a career in music. Training in music theory, ear training, music history, recording technology, performance ensembles, and private music instruction ensure that students receive a well-rounded musical education. Students can choose to focus on Classical or Contemporary styles of music, or even a combination of both styles. The quality of our program and our hands-on learning approach attracts the best students from Alberta and across Western Canada.

Music Preparatory Program
Industry demand has created the need for a well rounded and highly trained musicians. Our one-year preparatory program in Music was developed for the musician that has had no formal training. You’ll learn the fundamentals of listening, reading, writing and performance in music. Through classroom instruction and private lessons you will gain valuable knowledge and will sharpen your playing skills. With our tremendous resources, we can provide an ideal combination of intense, real world experience with the small class sizes, low tuition and personal attention that make RDC unique!
Faculty
Four full time faculty and over twelve adjunct faculty ensure that students learn and connect with an extensive community of diverse and energetic faculty, each of whom is at the forefront of their discipline.
With the support of our community of faculty and flexible program structure, students of the music program explore their untapped artistic talents in a considerate and knowledgeable environment.
Opportunities
The Music Program at RDC offers exciting opportunities for students and community members not enrolled in the program to participate in music for college credit or not-for-credit. Groups such as Symphonic Winds, Concert Choir, Chamber Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble (Big Band), Jazz Combo and Contemporary Styles afford many opportunities for performance and musical development. Individuals can also study with highly trained instructors in private lessons on a variety of instruments from piano to woodwind and brass instruments, percussion, guitar and voice for credit or not-for-credit through the Conservatory of Music.
