Biography
Malcolm Bell, an active composer, conductor and percussionist, and is currently teaching composition, jazz, percussion and music theory, while directing Red Deer College’s Jazz Combos and Percussion Ensemble.
Malcolm’s compositions have been performed internationally on three continents, including the Discovery Concert Series in Aberdeen, Scotland, the International Computer Music Festival in Hong Kong, and the Del Mar New Music Festival in Corpus Christie, Texas, resulting in his inclusion in Who’s Who In Popular Music (2000) by Cambridge International Biographers. Malcolm recently completed the film score for Wild Rose Sunset which was premiered in April 2011. He has directed and performed numerous music styles in various ensembles, from jazz, rock and Latin bands to symphony orchestras and marching bands. His 20+ years of professional performing and recording experiences include the National Film Board of Canada, CBC Radio and TV, and many others.
Currently a fulltime music faculty member at Red Deer College, he has also been a fulltime music faculty member at the University of North Texas and Prairie Bible College. Malcolm holds a Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Regina. He has published Music Rudiments and several other works, holds five patents for inventions, and is an active adjudicator for the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and other Alberta music festivals.
Malcolm enjoys sailing, fly fishing, skating, cross-country skiing, and racquetball.
