Queens Volleyball Team Awards

L to R: Danielle Newton, Quinn Schulzke, Talbot Walton (Coach),
Jill Folkard, Samantha Fraser

Rookie of the year – Danielle Newton

Danielle was recruited to fill a vacant starting position. She came in and instantly played like she belonged. Through the course of the season she continued to improve and became both an offensive and defensive threat, giving opponents more than they could handle.
Congratulations Danielle!!!!

Most Improved Player – Samantha Fraser

Knowing that you have the capacity to be an elite level athlete and then following through on it is a tough task. Sam made the effort early in the season to improve her game, and she quickly closed the gap with the athletes around her. Her commitment to improving also helped those around her, as she pushed others to improve as well. A completely revised volleyball player from where she was in High School, Sam will be a real threat in the ACAC next season. Great Job SAM!!!

Coaches Award – Jill Folkard

The Queens will be graduating an important team leader. Jill’s outstanding work ethic, her ability to take any assignment or role and then make it work, and her desire to make the Queens better will be deeply missed. Talbot says that Jill is the type of player and person that Queens volleyball is always looking for, and that she will be impossible to replace. Thanks for 3 great years Jill.

Most Valuable Player – Quinn Schulzke
Coming off a summer of playing Team Alberta volleyball with the Canada Games, really helped prepare Quinn for this past season. Right from the beginning of the season she established herself as one of the leaders on the team, and that she was prepared to make those around her better. She did exactly that in helping the Queens win an ACAC Gold and CCAA Bronze, and thankfully she was recognized for that contribution with an ACAC All-Star, and a CCAA Tournament All Star. Congratulations Quinn – well deserved.
