Athletics Leadership Fund
Recognizing the important role of athletics, RDC has launched a new strategy for athletic program sustainability. This Fund will provide ongoing support to our student athletes in all of our Athletic programs. We want to enable our student athletes to focus on their athletic and academic pursuits.
Aligned with our healthy initiatives, an Athletics Leadership Fund will support, develop and sustain leaders in our sports community - providing them further tools, beyond RDC learning, to become community leaders.
We know too, that beyond leadership, athletics build not only physical, but social capabilities while strengthening health - and while making an immeasurable contribution to college and community spirit.
Too often, the existence and success of our Athletic programs depends on the annual budget of RDC. This Fund will not replace, but rather augment, the current Athletic programs budget. It will ensure the long-term sustainabilty of our teams and the success of our students - for our athletes, it will mean more time to focus on their training and their studies.
At RDC, our student athletes are making waves across the nation. In March 2012, RDC tied for first place and received the Academic All Canadian Recognition Award. This award is presented by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association to the school with the most student-athletes receiving Academic All-Canadian Recognition, combining academic and athletic excellence.
This Fund is supported by the Athletics Leadership Committee - volunteers with lasting connections to the College, and sports and active community. Past RDC Kings Hockey coach, Mike Babcock, and RDC Alumna, Melody Davidson, sit as honourary co-chairs of this committee. RDC Alum and dedicated volunteer, Jeremy Jablonski, is the Athletics Leadership Committee chair.
