Centre for Sport & Wellness

Wellness contributes to the overall quality of life!

Connecting to the community and beyond
The Centre for Sport & Wellness expansion will greatly improve access to sport and recreation for not only the College community, but citizens of the City and County of Red Deer and the surrounding region.

Get ready to get fit!  Performance and instructional gyms, an indoor track, racquet courts, dance studios, fitness and testing spaces will be constructed - all with public access and accessibility to the disabled community.

The Sport Administration Centre will serve as the hub of hockey, coaching, refereeing and leadership development for the entire province.  The Ice Centre will offer an indoor Olympic-size ice surface.  The Field House will feature a multi-purpose, indoor arena for College programming and a wide array of community sport organizations.

Wellness Village
This collaboration between the College and AHS-DTHR will improve access to primary care services - for both students and residents of central Alberta. Elements being planned include:

  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Diabetes Centre
  • Injury Prevention
  • Obesity Management
  • Healthy Aging Centre
  • Nutrition
  • Community Mental Health

The Wellness Village will offer spinal cord injury rehabilitation in association with the University of Alberta's Steadward Centre, the Rick Hansen Foundation and the Canadian Paraplegic Association.  Plans include creating diversified opportunities for persons with disabilities close to home, increasing access and participation no matter what one's ability.
