Perfect Pitch, Perfect Partnership

Red Deer Royals extend major commitment to RDC

Red Deer College will be alive with the sound of music – literally – in the years ahead, thanks to a generous donation by the Red Deer Royals.

RDC students and central Albertans alike will benefit from a $1 million commitment by the Royals in support of new educational, wellness and sport opportunities. This commitment is in support of RDC’s Building Communities Through Learning initiative.

“We are delighted to partner with one of our region’s most positive and engaging youth organizations, whose members are so well known and respected as Red Deer and central Alberta ambassadors,” says Joel Ward, RDC President & CEO. “The Royals link much of their historical roots to RDC, and we hope it’s just the beginning of future collaboration. We are really excited and appreciative of this major commitment.”

More support.  As the Red Deer Royals Alumni Association kicks off its internal fundraising to achieve this $1 million commitment, a notable community service club has come forward to help. The Kinsmen Club of Red Deer are donating $100,000 to the Royals in support of this RDC investment.

Here’s where the partnering evolves:  for years, the Royals have needed a functional and reliable new practice venue. The planned RDC Centre for Sport & Wellness will feature a multipurpose Field House. Not only will this flexible-use indoor learning space be used for academic programming, but at a planned 4500m2, it will also provide an ideal practice space for the band.

The Royals have been actively involved in the planning process for this part of the facility.

“It will be fantastic to have a permanent home for the Red Deer Royals. The partnership with RDC gives students a place to practice on a regular basis in a world-class educational setting,” says Ingrid Anderson, President, Red Deer Royals Alumni Association. “We are overwhelmed with the generous support of the Kinsmen in kicking off our fundraising commitment. It is indeed a day of celebration!”

This new partnership enables the College to open its future doors to individuals, groups and teams throughout central Alberta, to benefit from the planned space for educational, organized sport and recreation activities. The Royals alone have representatives from at least 25 schools throughout the region.

“This partnership is just one way we can extend opportunities beyond our students and to our community,” says Ward.

Over the past 36 years, the Red Deer Royals have become an award-winning band that performs, competes and delights crowds both locally and internationally. This award-winning and unique band program trains young instrumentalists, ages 12–21, in the performance of traditional and contemporary music – in concert, parade and field show settings. The Royals are known for their quality instruction, variety of repertoire and originality of presentation.
