Volunteer Profile

Accomplished Industry Leader Joins Campaign Leadership

Mike Chorlton is a busy man. Not only is he President and CEO of Parkland Income Fund – a major RDC supporter – but he finds time to volunteer. As part of the Executive Campaign Committee (ECC), he makes an important contribution to the Building Communities Through Learning (BCTL) Campaign.

Chorlton leads Canada’s largest national independent fuel distributor and is active in Alberta’s economy and industry. As such, he has forged invaluable connections to industry leaders throughout the province and beyond.

“With rather limited time availability, I saw this as one opportunity where I could use my background and contacts to best support RDC,” he says.

His volunteer role at RDC began on the Major Gifts Committee and more recently Chorlton was asked to contribute his expertise to the ECC. While the ECC helps the College focus its vision towards more long-term fund development planning for the College, the committee also plays a key role in strategy planning for the Campaign.

His other volunteer duties involve fundraising for the Red Deer Ronald McDonald House.

A lengthy career in leadership positions for major petroleum, agribusiness and high-technology companies includes the areas of marketing, logistics, customer service, planning, finance, business development and plant operations. Along his journey, he has worked with Imperial Oil and Exxon Chemical, Saskferco Products Inc. and Renessen LLC.

This extensive background has resulted in a well-rounded, versatile knowledge of many industries.

His post-secondary studies started at McGill University and continued at University of British Columbia for a Masters Degree. In September of 2005, Chorlton settled in Red Deer when Parkland Income Fund appointed him as President and CEO.

“When I joined Parkland in 2005, we were significant supporters of several fundraising activities. As we learned of the BCTL fundraising Campaign and the opportunities to contribute to the success of this local institution, we decided to pledge $500,000 over five years, our largest corporate donation ever.”

According to Chorlton, RDC plays an important role in central Alberta. “I am very excited about the integration of the College into the broader community,” he explains, “and the ability to maximize the benefits from available funds donated by RDC supporters.”

For his energy and dedication, RDC is deeply appreciative of Chorlton’s invaluable support of the Campaign.
