Scotiabank's Donation Helps Donald School of Business Students

Thanks to a generous donation from Scotiabank, every year at least three more students will receive $1,500 towards their RDC education.

Scotiabank recently contributed $125,000 to RDC in support of scholarships for students enrolled in Business programs – a timely donation with the upcoming opening of the downtown Donald School of Business.

Under its ‘Bright Future’ global philanthropic program, Scotiabank is proud to support RDC and the Donald School of Business. “We are particularly pleased to know this bursary will assist deserving students in the pursuit of their future career and life goals,” says George Marlatte, Prairie Region Senior Vice President, Scotiabank. “We, at Scotiabank, understand the benefits a post-secondary education has for students and the communities they call home.”

Students entering their first year of Business studies in the RDC Bachelor of Commerce, Business Administration Diploma, Financial Services Diploma or Management Certificate program are eligible to apply for the Scotiabank Scholarship for Business.

Joanne Packham, Dean, Donald School of Business and Human Services, feels that Scotiabank has made a great decision in rewarding some of our incoming students. “Our aspirations for growth in programs and enrolment will mean the need is that much greater for financial support of students pursuing a business education,” she says. “As students make the tough choice of where to attend post-secondary, we hope a $1,500 award will help them choose to stay in Red Deer or make the move to Red Deer.”

Renovations on the new Donald School of Business downtown campus began February 28 by Shunda Consulting & Construction Management Ltd. With construction underway, planning continues for furniture purchase and installation this summer. Plans are also in the works for the relocation of RDC staff and faculty from main campus to downtown.

The continued growth of RDC replies on significant investments from government, as well as major commitments from community partners, corporations, foundations, and individual donors and philanthropists.

With these new business scholarships and the downtown location opening soon, the opportunities for learners are growing.

“Without support from donors like Scotiabank, many of us wouldn’t be able to achieve our RDC education,” says Steven Kwasny, President, Students’ Association. “This will give more students interested in business the opportunity to experience the growing advantages in the Donald School of Business.”
