Ever wonder who supports our College?

Typically, eNews highlights only one dedicated volunteer in each issue. We are so grateful for those who offer their time and energy to our development and advancement committees that we couldn’t limit ourselves! Our profile is a “who’s who” of the Fund Development volunteer board and committees.

Our College depends on the leadership of these connected individuals, assisted by RDC staff, to enable sustainable funding and support for RDC and our core – the students.

Three main groups support the success of strategic fund development: the RDC Foundation Board, the Fund Development Advisory Group and most recently, the Athletics Leadership Committee.

RDC Foundation Board

What they do: created in 1982, the RDC Foundation’s goals are to serve as the fundraising arm, to attract increased financial support for our students and programs, and to help cultivate a committed volunteer base. Appointed by the Board of Governors, the Foundation Board provides strategic guidance on college-wide major fundraising initiatives. Their key objectives are to:

  • provide input and strategies on how to raise money for designated projects and priorities such as major gift initiatives, events, planned giving and annual giving
  • maximize the benefit of all fundraising events by regularly assessing their timeliness, suitability and overall efficacy to RDC’s strategies and vision
  • promote, cultivate and guide donors, supported by Community Relations Division
  • promote and develop a volunteer base by engaging key community members who have energy, creativity and connections – via business, community, alumni or individual relationships

Who they are: led by Chair Lowell Hodgson, the Foundation Board is a group of enthusiastic individuals who ensure that the financial gifts to RDC are used efficiently and appropriately.

Fund Development Advisory Group

What they do: these group members play a role in the strategic planning of our major fundraising and are capable of envisioning RDC ten years into the future. With a passion for growth and change, they connect with prospective donors to communicate our initiatives and plans. Many members make their own leadership gifts and understand the donor experience and perspective.

Athletics Leadership Committee

What they do: A major focus of RDC’s long-term fund development strategy is to establish and secure a sustainable Athletics Leadership Fund. From this focus, the committee was created with the goal of ensuring that our Athletics programs have access to a consistent budget. The initiative is geared to enhancing our Athletics environment – a place that will help build and nurture leadership qualities in our student athletes, preparing them for their future. With the support of honorary co-chairs, Mike Babcock (former RDC Kings Hockey coach) and Melody Davidson (RDC Alumna), and led by Chair Jeremy Jablonski, this group connects with philanthropists who understand the beneficial impact of athletics on individuals and the central Alberta community.
