Alberta Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program
This program is designed to assist working pharmacy technicians meet the new requirements of the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) which are:
1) successful completion of 4 courses in bridging program: (can be taken in any order)
• Professional Practice for Pharmacy Technician Bridging
• Product Preparation for Pharmacy Technician Bridging
• Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technician Bridging
• Management of Drug Distribution Systems for Pharmacy Technician Bridging
2) successful completion of an entry to practice examination developed by the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC).

Note: Admission Requirements:
Participants must meet one of the following criteria:
• successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board of Alberta (PTCB-AB) certification exam prior to June 2008
• successful completion of the OCP certification exam prior to December 2008
• successful completion of the PEBC evaluating exam
• successful completion of a CCAPP accredited training program
• inclusion on the ACP voluntary membership register
• min 2000 hours practice experience in the field of pharmacy in the past 36 months

• Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technician Bridging
2 sections of this will start in Sept. 2010. One is the instructed on-line course and the other is the “CHALLENGE ONLY” section.
To register in either an on-line instructed course or the Challenge Only section, complete the application form on this page and submit it to the RDC Registrar’s Office in person, via fax: 402.357.3660, or e-mail to admissions@rdc.ab.ca
Those registering for a Challenge Only section must also complete the PLAR Waiver Form & submit it to the Program Coordinator, Jennifer Hartigh, in person, via fax: 403.342.3278, or by e-mail to jennifer.hartigh@rdc.ab.ca. Registrants writing the challenge exam in Red Deer must contact the RDC Test Centre at 403. 342.3292 to book their writing time and registrants writing the exam at another location must submit the Invigilator Form.
Note: the Challenge Exam for each course can only be attempted once and the exams are relatively difficult. Registrants can check with the RDC Bookstore at 403.342.3245 to see if there are optional texts available for purchase to use as study materials.
