Go Girl
The Red Deer Be Fit for Life Centre has organized the Go Girl event since 2004. The event is a one day get active workshop for grade 5 girls in the City of Red Deer that runs every May. The goal of this event is to encourage and support grade 5 girls in choosing an active and healthy lifestyle. This one day experience allows the grade 5 girls to see and try a variety of physical activities and sports and access resources on how to continue participating in these activities. They also have the opportunity to participate in sessions and information on nutrition, body image and wellness issues. Go Girl is a great opportunity for girls to move beyond some of the barriers to participating in physical activity. The Red Deer Go Girl has created a large momentum for girls of all ages to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. Many girls look forward to the yearly event. Evaluations from the program have shown that there is an impact in the physical activity involvement after the one day event. Go Girl is made possible due to funding from the InMotion Network and the support of many community organizations.
