Allison Argy-Burgess

Allison Argy-Burgess was born in Red Deer, Alberta and raised in St. Albert. She is an active visual artist and arts administrator whose watercolours have been exhibited in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario in public and commercial galleries, and are held in private and institutional  collections in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.  Allison's paintings present the everyday in a vivid and stylized manner, a reality inspired by, but larger than life, which challenges the viewer to look at the world around them with a new and fresh perspective.

Allison has been married to Ken since 1978 and they have three grown children. She  is passionate about family and travel, and loves to discover different landscapes and cultures. The photos and sketches from her many trips, as well as her memory and perceptions have strongly influenced her current body of work.

Allison is an experienced cultural administrator who worked as the Executive Director of Visual Arts Alberta for many years and is a managing partner and editor of the popular online magazine and resource for Alberta visual artists, Artrubicon, www.artrubicon.com.  Her creative focus is on the media of watercolour which, although challenging provides her finished works with a vibrant yet mystical feeling - providing a metaphor of reality rather than a mirror.  Allison is represented by Art Beat Gallery in St. Albert, AB.
