Ritchie Velthuis

Edmonton based artist, Ritchie Velthuis', lifelong commitment to sculpture was rewarded with the distinct honour of being a demonstrating artist for the Royal Visit in 2005 and his design of Edmonton's Homeless Memorial was recently unveiled.
The figure has been his muse for over twenty years and he works primarily in clay from a life model. These studies, inspired by the intimacy and immediacy of the artist/model relationship, are then taken back to his studio to be refined and edited. An emotional reaction… an archetypal image … symmetry of line and form... are subconsciously revealed through his manipulation of clay.
