Learning Support

Contrary to popular belief, some people are not born with the ability to learn efficiently and effectively.Good learning skills are developed through conscious effort and experience. Your time as a student at RDC is your opportunity to build on your skills in readiness for a lifetime of learning ... and you are not alone; we are here to help. Learning support services are free of charge and include the following:

Learning Strategies
Learning strategies are all those actions you take to help you understand, remember and apply the knowledge you are acquiring in your courses. Workshops, small group instruction and individual appointments are available on a wide variety of topics, such as:

  • Reading textbooks effectively
  • Note-taking
  • Managing your time
  • Understanding your learning style
  • Minimizing exam anxiety

Math Skills
You can sign up for a half hour appointment or attend drop in sessions with the professional math tutor. The tutor can help you with all levels of mathematics including trades math.

Peer Tutors
Students with expertise in a variety of subjects are available to help you if you are encountering difficulty.  To access this assistance, come to room 1402 and fill out a peer tutor request form.

Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)
PASS involves regularly scheduled study sessions for courses that are traditionally difficult for many students. The sessions are led by PASS Leaders, who are students who have already completed the course successfully. The PASS Leaders re-attend classes then facilitate their study sessions with a focus on the important concepts being covered. Research has shown that regular attendance at these type of sessions improves the course grades of participants.
