Objectives

The main purpose of this program is to provide knowledge and ideas, information, motivation and guidance to college students regarding tobacco use. We provide students with accurate information and action steps to make good decisions about tobacco use.  Our goal is to provide skills for student wellness, to assist in reduction, cessation, and decrease the likelihood of the initiation of tobacco use.

What We Offer

We provide excellent materials and tips on quitting, current developments in the tobacco field, related tobacco issues and web-based educational sites. The documentary called "Smoke Screen", which was developed at RDC, is available as an educational tool. Students can feel free to join the Tobacco Reduction Program at Red Deer College and receive confidential assistance in a non-judgmental environment.

Students are encouraged to participate in activities that are offered as a way to enhance their personal wellness, promote cessation skills and increase knowledge about problems posed by tobacco.  Tobacco Reduction Program activities are ongoing until the end of the school year and are integrated with other departments within the college which makes it both diverse and easily accessible.

Tobacco Reduction Program at RDC includes:

  • Cessation Program
  • Education
  • Wellness Promotion
  • Policy Development
  • Second Hand Smoke Exposure Issues
  • Regularly Scheduled Activities
