Final Exams

Instructors will inform you in the course outline whether a written final examination will be required. The final examination will be after the last day of classes in a scheduled examination period. An instructor may assign a take home final examination for any course. Refer to the Final Examinations Policy for more information.

It is your responsibility to be available for the complete time period during which final exams are scheduled. Exams are scheduled mornings, afternoons and evenings, Monday through Saturday, during the examination period. Consult the Academic Schedule for the exact dates of the final examination period each term.

The final exam schedule will be posted in the forum area one month prior to the end of term.

The final examination will carry a weight of at least 20% and no more than 50% of the final grade.

All written final examinations, with the exception of take home examinations, must be scheduled:

  • With a four day break between the last day of classes and the beginning of examinations
  • So that students are not required to write examinations in three consecutive time slots, except in instances where the consecutive time slots include slots on Saturday and Monday
  • With a minimum of two hours and a maximum of three hours to complete the examination

With the exception of any laboratory examination, any test or examination which is written during the last seven days of classes will be valued at no more than 15% of the final grade for the course.
