Maintenance & Housekeeping

General Maintenance in Residence

If you have a maintenance concern, please contact the Residence Office during normal business hours, or contact your R.A. Residents are NOT to attempt to make their own repairs! Residents attempting to make their own repairs will be fined in addition to having to pay the cost of maintenance. All lights bulbs are to be installed by the Residence Maintenance person.

Maintenance staff are authorized to enter your unit unit/suite to carry out repairs as necessary. It is not necessary for you to be home as maintenance personnel carry passkeys. Staff ALWAYS lock doors when they leave a unit.

*Note: Please keep windows closed in the winter to prevent pipes from freezing! Frozen pipes will break resulting in flooding and extensive damage to the unit. You will be responsible for all damages both in your unit and adjoining units, that are a result of broken pipes due to open windows.

Insurance

Insurance carried by the College does not cover the personal possessions of Residents. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES does the College assume any obligation or responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged private property, including losses that are a direct of structural damages or accidents. Existing Homeowners Insurance (i.e. parents insurance) may cover losses and Residents are strongly advised to contact their parents' insurance provider to determine whether or not coverage is given to students away from home. If not, tenants are advised to arrange Renter's Insurance or Replacement Insurance coverage on personal possessions brought into Residence.

Damages

Each student is responsible for any damages that occur in their unit. Excessive damage may result in eviction from Residence for the Resident(s) involved.

Please ensure that you fill the Room Condition Report out as soon as you move into your unit. You must indicate any and all damages, cleanliness problems and necessary repairs required in your unit on the form. Each roommate must fill out his/her own Room Condition Report. The report must be returned to the Residence Office within 7 days of checking in. It is important that you fill out the form completely and accurately, as you will be held financially responsible for any damages or problems not reported.

When damages occur in the unit that no individual takes responsibility for, the charges will be divided among ALL residents of that unit. Therefore, it is your responsibility to contact the Residence Office as soon as damages occur, WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE. Any Residents who chose not to report damages will be subject to disciplinary sanctions, or eviction from Residence, in addition to being held financially responsible for the cost of repairing damages. If one of your guests is responsible for the damage, YOU will be still held financially responsible.

General Housekeeping in Residence

You are expected to keep your apartment in a respectable condition at all times! Vacuum cleaners are provided in each of the units. Vacuum cleaner bags are available from the Residence Office for those models that require bags. Regardless of the model, the vacuums need to be checked and emptied/changed on a regular basis.

Recycling containers for paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum are located around the large garbage dumpsters. Please make sure that your recyclables are sorted into the proper containers.

You are responsible for transporting garbage from your unit to the large disposal containers outdoors. DO NOT leave garbage on your doorstep, stairwell landing, porch or outside the main doors of Towers. Leaving garbage bags outside will result in a warning and the possibility of a ticket.

Caretaking is provided in the common areas including stairwells, hallways, laundry rooms and TV lounges. If you have any, or have noticed any, problems with any areas or cleaning standards in Residence, please contact the Residence Office.
