Full Time Funding

There are numerous types of financial assistance for students who choose to study on a full-time basis. Explore your options for government loans, government grants, and other sources by using the navigation to the left. 
So what does it mean to be “full-time?” 
That might seem like an easy question, but in reality “full-time” can mean a lot of things.  Each funding organization will set their own definition, but here are a few of the more common definitions for RDC students:

Alberta Residents with government student loans.

You must be registered in 60% of a full-course load for the period of your loan. Normally the minimum credit weight for eligibility for full-time student loans is:

  •  Fall and Winter terms: 9 post-secondary academic credits and 3 post-secondary classes per term
  •  Spring term: 6 post-secondary academic credits and 2 post-secondary classes per term
  •  an equivalent as approved by the Student Funding & Awards Office

Out of Province students with government student loans
Check your full-time requirements with the Student Funding & Awards Office as these rules may differ for each province.
Full-time government student grants
Students receiving full-time government grants are generally required to study at 100% of a full-course load.  This means you must usually be taking the maximum number of classes for your particular program.
Students with a Disability
Students with a disability may be eligible to receive full-time funding and study at a reduced course load.  For more information contact the Student Funding & Awards Office to discuss your funding options.
