Registration Checklist

Now that you are registered, ensure you are familiar with all of the information found at the Current Students website. You are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of your registration. To help you ensure the courses you have selected are appropriate for your program, please complete the checklist below.

Check the following to ensure that you have completed your registration correctly:

  • You have registered in courses for both Fall term and Winter term.
  • You have registered in the corresponding sections for both Fall and Winter term of any full-year (30 week) courses. E.g. English 210 M for Fall and 210 MM for Winter.
  • You have checked that you will have completed all course prerequisites before the higher level course starts. E.g. Psychology 260 will be completed by the end of Fall term, prior to starting Psychology 261 in Winter term. View the course descriptions in the RDC Calendar or online through the RDC Timetable.
  • You are taking no more than 15 academic credits (usually 5 courses are maximum) per term. This may be different for some majors, e.g. Kinesiology majors. View the Academic Planning Guide from the Academic Advising webpage.
  • All of the courses for which you have registered say “RW” (i.e. registered via the web) or “RE” (registered in person) in the status column on your student schedule (which can be viewed or printed from your personal student web account).
  • If you have taken courses at another college or university, you have completed an Application for Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact the Registrar’s Office at 403.342.3400 to request an application form or visit the Recognition of Prior Learning webpage.
  • You have reviewed the Student and Academic Standard Practices & Policies.
  • You have reviewed the Academic Schedule and are familiar with important College dates and deadlines.
  • You have reviewed the Frequently Asked Questions on the Academic Advising webpage.

Are you taking upgrading courses?

  • You have registered for no more than 15 academic credits for the term in which you are also taking an upgrading course.
  • If you are taking any upgrading courses in a term and applying for government student loans, please contact the Student Funding and Awards Office at 403.342.3254 or e-mail financialaid@rdc.ab.ca for information about funding regulations for upgrading courses.

Are you in a university transfer program?

  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you have selected and scheduled your courses to meet the requirements of your degree program. You are responsible for ensuring that each of your courses will transfer to your program and to the university from which you plan to graduate.
  • You have checked the admission requirements and the graduation requirements for the university, the faculty and the program to which you will be transferring. Refer to the RDC Academic Planning Guide for your program and to the university calendar. See “How to Find More Information” on the last page of the planning guide for your program (available on the Academic Advising website).
  • You have checked the Alberta Transfer Guide at http://www.acat.gov.ab.ca/ to ensure that each course will transfer to the university where you will be completing your degree.
  • You have checked the number of transfer credits to be received and have read any footnotes associated with the transfer course.

Are you receiving student loans?

  • If receiving Alberta or Canada student loans - do you have a minimum of 3 courses which total at least 9 academic credits each term?
  • If receiving student loans from another province or agency - have you checked that your registration complies with their requirements?
