Tenant's Association

The Tenant's Association is the student government that represents the nearly 600 students living in Residence at RDC. All tenants are members of the Tenant's Association.

The Tenant's Association offers opportunities to get involved in Residence Life through many different types of programs and activities. The T.A. has an executive consisting of 14 Resident Assistants, spread out through the Towers, Cluster Rowhouses, and Block Rowhouses as well as a Wing 6/Family RA. The Resident Assistant position is the most comprehensive student leadership experience available in the Residence system.

All regular, full-time tenants are required to pay a non-refundable $25 Tenant's Association fee. The Tenant's Association fee for Apprentice students is $1 / week for the number of weeks they are staying in Residence. This money is used to subsidize or cover the cost of the activities organized by the T.A.. Some of the activities that the Tenant's Association has run in the past include: rock climbing, slo-pitch tournaments, ski-trips to Kananaskis, the Year End Formal, trips to West Edmonton Mall, and many other educational and social events. The T.A. fee also goes towards the purchase and maintenance of vacuum cleaners, common area televisions, sports equipment and other items that are available for tenant use as well as the Residence Van which is used for Grocery Runs and off-campus events.

Resident Assistants (T.A. Executive)

The R.A.'s are trained in many areas including First Aid, Suicide Prevention, Alcohol Awareness, Communication Skills, and Conflict Mediation. The R.A.'s will be planning and running a variety of programs and activities throughout the year which enables them to help residents to adapt to Residence Life, and build community within Residence.

Each Tower, Cluster Rowhouse, and Block Rowhouse has a Resident Assistant. There are three R.A.'s on duty in the evenings and weekends when the Residence Office is closed. The "On-Duty" R.A.'s carry cell phones and are responsible for supervision of the Residence while on duty. If you have a maintenance problem, a problem with a roommate, concerns about Residence issues, or get locked out of your room, you can contact the R.A. for your area, or you can call the "On-Duty" R.A.. The "Duty" phone numbers are:

  • Towers R.A. On-Duty 403.391.8433
  • Rowhouses R.A. On-Duty 403.391.8434
  • Blocks R.A. On-Duty 403.391.8426

It is the responsibility of the Resident Assistants and Security staff members to enforce behavioural standards and deal appropriately with students and/or guests who are in violation of these policies. It is expected that residents obey their requests and decisions made when acting to maintain the safety and security of Residence; understanding that they are acting as an agent of Residence Management.

For more information about this position and other student leadership opportunities, contact your current RA, or the Residence Life Office.

Conduct Board

The Residence Life Conduct Board was created in order to ensure that tenants are given the opportunity to be involved in the Residence discipline process. This board consists of the Residence Life Coordinator, a Resident Assistant, and three students from the Residence Community. The R.A. who issued the ticket is also present during the Conduct Board meeting in order to recall the incident and give a statement as to why the ticket was issued.

Any tenant served a violation ticket (that is not for an evictable offense) will have the opportunity to present his/her case to the Residence Life Conduct Board. The Board will determine whether or not the person is responsible and will make a decision on the amount of a fine. Fines can range from $20-$100 and may include community hours. All fines and community hours must be paid, and/or completed, within 30 days or a notice to vacate will be served. All money from fines goes to the Tenant's Association.

If you would like to be on the conduct board, contact your R.A. or the Residence Life Coordinator.

Residence Orientation

Residence Orientation happens a few days after classes start, when most of the students have arrived and are settling in. Residence Orientation is a mixture of fun and games, information about the Residence and its rules/regulations, as well as tons of opportunity to get to know your fellow tenants and the R.A.'s.

The date for the 2012 - 2013 academic year Residence Orientation has yet to be announced.  Everyone is welcome; however, the planned activities will be especially helpful for students new to Red Deer and Residence. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. More information will be provided when you move in.
Hope to see ya there!

*Note: the RDC Orientation is different from Residence Orientation.
