Helpful Hints for Government Student Loans
- Application forms are available from the Student Funding & Awards Office, Rm 1101.
- You must list the correct institution on your student loan application. If you are enrolled in a collaborative program, you are NOT a RDC student. For example, a student enrolled in the Collaborative Nursing program - 4th year, would identify University of Alberta as their institution, and RDC as their campus. Students who fill in their institution incorrectly will experience significant delays receiving their funds.
- If you are registered in your classes use your actual tuition costs.
- Start date: September 07, 2011
- End date: April 20, 2012
Concurrent Enrollment
If you are enrolled part-time at more than one institution you may be eligible for full-time funding by combining your classes to meet full-time course load requirements.
If you have not yet applied for a student loan:
- Complete a paper loan application. Include Schedule 3: Concurrent Enrollment and supporting documentation. Submit to Students Finance along with your loan application.
If you have already applied for a student loan:
- Obtain a copy of Schedule 3: Concurrent Enrollment from the Student Funding & Awards Office, Rm 1101. Complete and forward to Students Finance along with supporting documentation.
Students Finance will determine if your course load is considered full-time. A letter confirming your full-time status will be sent to you. You will be required to present this letter when you have your loan certificates signed.
Loan Signing for Students Enrolled in Collaborative Programs
Student loan certificates may be dropped off at the front desk of the Student Funding & Awards Office at RDC for signing.
Our staff will fax your information to your institution. Your institution will then authorize our office to sign your loan and deduct your tuition if applicable.
Signed certificates can be picked up from the front desk of the Student Funding & Awards Office approximately 4 days after dropping them off. You will be required to present Photo Id to pick up your certificates.
Paying your Tuition
Tuition for all classes (both Fall and Winter terms if applicable) you are taking through your Collaborative institution (ie. U of A, U of C) will be deducted from your Fall loan unless you request otherwise and can provide confirmation that you are approved for sufficient loan funding in January to cover Winter tuition.
Tuition for any RDC classes must be paid separately and cannot be deducted directly from a Collaborative student loan. If you are depending on your loan to pay any RDC tuition, and will not receive your loan money before the RDC tuition deadline, you can request a tuition deferral to extend your tuition deadline until you have received your loan money. Click here for more information.
Remember: Tuition payments must be made directly to your institution. Those students enrolled in RDC classes and classes through a Collaborative program (ie. University of Calgary, 3rd year Bachelor of Arts) must make payments to each institution.
Emergency Funding
Resources are available to students who are struggling with their finances because of unanticipated and uncontrollable expenses. Please visit the Student Funding & Awards office to discuss your situation and options regarding Emergency Funding.
