What About Funding?

There are various sources of funding, awards, and scholarships available for distance learners, but you should apply early, as it may take several weeks to process and receive the funding. Tuition costs are determined by the number of courses you take and the billing credits assigned to each course. A few of the most common types of funding are listed below.

Funding for Part-time Study

Part-time funding is available for students studying on a part-time basis.  It is intended to assist with the cost of tuition, books, travel and daycare (if applicable). It is expected that students will cover the cost of their living expenses, such as rent, utilities, etc. from their own income. Application forms can be requested from the Student Funding & Awards Office.

Government Student Loans

The federal and provincial governments provide financial aid in the form of loans and grants on the basis of demonstrated financial need. You may qualify for several provincial and/or federal grants. Grants do not need to be repaid if you remain in full-time studies for the period in which you are funded.

Sponsorships

Businesses and organizations may sponsor students in the form of bursaries. These funds are designed to assist students who meet specific eligibility criteria and demonstrate financial need.

Another form of sponsorship is through employers or through Band Sponsorship. This type of funding is an agreement between yourself and your employer or Band to sponsor you for your education by paying for your application fee, tuition and fees, and/or textbooks for one course up to the entire length of your studies. Please contact the Distance Learning Office to obtain a Sponsorship Form for completion with your employer or Band.
