As such, RDC offers a number of services and has safety procedures in place with everyone’s wellbeing in mind. A safe campus is not a privilege but a right. Safewalk Program
The RDC Safewalk program was developed by Campus Security as a safety initiative for the campus community. This service is in place to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors as you travel about the Campus, particularly during evenings and after hours. The program is available to anyone on campus.
To request a Safewalk, visit the Security Centre desk located at the main entrance of the campus, or call security at 403.342.3445 (Local 3445 from any campus phone). One of the on duty Commissionaires will meet you at your location and provide an escort for you to your office, vehicle, or other requested destination on campus.
For more information on RDC's Safewalk program, please contact the Manager, Security and Emergency Response - Vern May at 403.357.3696 or email vernon.may@rdc.ab.ca.
Emergency Phones
If an individual’s life is in danger, calls to 911 can be made directly from the College by dialing 9911 from an internal phone, or 911 from an external phone (such as a cell phone). If the scenario is non-life threatening, Campus Security should be notified by dialing 4000 from an internal phone, or 403.343.4000 from an external phone. Campus Security staff are trained in how to handle emergencies. He or she will assess the situation and call for additional help if necessary.
Emergency Preparedness
RDC has an excellent campus safety and emergency preparedness plan. In fact, RDC is one of the first in Canada to use VOIP (voice over internet protocol) to immediately notify students and staff of an emergency taking place on campus through internal and external speakers. Flat screen TVs are also equipped to instantly display emergency procedures, should an emergency occur.
All security guards have received training in first aid, CPR and emergency response procedures (fire, bomb threat and medical emergencies).
