College Wireless FAQ

Q. Where can I access Wireless Internet on the Red Deer College campus?
A. Wireless Internet is accessible throughout the campus, with the exception of the Residence and certain parts of  the Arts Centre.

Q. Can I use my personal laptop, notebook computer, iPod Touch, or smartphone?
A. Yes, you can use all of those devices.

Q. What type of wireless network is available?
A. RDC uses “WiFi” wireless network technology. Your computer should be compatible with WiFi 802.11B or 802.11G technology.

Q. What version of web browser do I need?
A. Your computer should have MS Internet Explorer version 6 or newer.

Q.  Can I use other browsers?
A.  Yes, you can also use Firefox. Other browsers may also work, but all programs or software may not work correctly. 

Q. Do I need a Red Deer College computer network account to use the wireless?
A. No. Once you open your browser, you will be connected to the "RDCPublicInternet" wireless network.

Q. What setup changes do I need to make on my computer to access the Internet?
A. Before you attempt to connect to the Wireless Internet network, you may need to:

  • disable all Pop-Up Blockers,
  • disable all firewall software setup on your computer,
  • clear all the temporary Internet files and cookies from your computer.
  • NOTE: Please remember to reactivate these settings when you log off of the Wireless Internet network.

Q. How do I log on?
A. Open Internet Explorer

  • You should automatically be connected to the "RDCPublicInternet" wireless network.
