Red Deer College has a license with the Educational Rights Collective of Canada to allow the copying and showing of television and radio programs in the classroom. The license allows for a copy of the television or radio program to be made, kept, and used for one year. After a year, it must be destroyed, and the destruction of the copy must be reported.
Specific types of programs, identified as "news" and "news commentary" programs, are covered by the license; consult the News, News Commentary, and Documentary Guidelines for more information.
Report Use of Program in Classroom
If you show or listen to a program in your class, report it by contacting Kristine Plastow via e-mail at kristine.plastow@rdc.ab.ca. As well, contact Kristine to report the detruction of the copy. This is the information which needs to be reported:
- Is this a taping or a destruction of an existing program
- Title of program
- Copy identifier
- Other identifying information [e.g. episode title, subject, segment description, song title(s)]
- Name, network, call sign or other identifier of the broadcaster
- Date of original broadcast (month, day, year)
- Time of original broadcast (start and finish)
- Duration of segment copied (in minutes)
- Date the program was shown in class
- Date your copy of program was destroyed (if applicable)
- Your name
- Your position at RDC
