Unit Clerk Extension Certificate

The Unit Clerk Extension certification is designed for Medical Office Assistant certificate holders who aspire to work in a hospital or continuing care facility setting.   

In this program, you will gain both theoretical and practical training to help you become a confident unit clerk. You will hone your skills to perform various administrative, reception and clerical tasks at nursing stations on the units or wards of hospitals and continuing care centers.   

In the Unit Clerk Extension certificate program, you will build on the foundational knowledge acquired during your Medical Office Assistant certificate program. Additionally, you will develop further knowledge and skills specific to the hospital and care home setting. This extension program comprises one theory course and one practicum in a hospital environment.

About the Unit Clerk Extension Certificate

This certificate program has a 105-hour preceptorship within a hospital setting. Learn more about the many types of experiential learning opportunities available at Red Deer Polytechnic through the Career Education and Experience Development Centre.

Students are required to have earned their Medical Office Assistant certificate prior to taking this extension program.

Health & Safety

Health workers are responsible to attain and maintain required health and safety certifications and maintain recommended immunization standards. 

For clinical and practicum placements, as a student of a Health program, you also are required to meet these standards of practice

These health and safety requirements do not need to be submitted as part of your application. However, failure to submit the required documents will affect your progression in your chosen program.
