RDC prepares for more in-person learning for Fall 2021 Term while keeping College community safe during pandemic
Monday, March 29, 2021
As Red Deer College prepares for Fall 2021 Term and a new academic year, it has developed a comprehensive plan that will safely welcome more learners to its campuses while continuing online, blended and hy-flex course and program delivery options. Hy-flex delivery allows students to select on-site or online learning, where possible.
“Our students are excited about the increased on-site learning opportunities for Fall term, while still having the ability to choose from several course delivery options that best meet their needs and circumstances throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” says Kylie Thomas, RDC Vice President Academic and Research. “This past year, our faculty and staff have done a tremendous job adapting their teaching to a variety of delivery models to safely and effectively meet our students’ academic requirements.”
In some instances where valuable hands-on learning such as shops and labs are key components of the immersive educational experience at RDC, students will need to attend the College’s campuses in-person.
“We are looking forward to the upcoming Fall term and welcoming more students back on-campus, as our dedicated faculty and staff continue to prepare learners for the future,” says Dr. Peter Nunoda, RDC President. “As the COVID-19 situation has evolved, we continue to offer the same breadth of programming and valuable learning opportunities to our students.”
For Fall 2021 Term, students will have the option to utilize the College’s services in a manner that best suits their circumstances. Services will be offered online and in-person from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This flexibility will ensure learners can continue to seek supports and information whether they are on-campus or connecting virtually.
As the option for more on-site learning opportunities increases for September, a growing number of students will be searching for a comfortable and convenient place to live. RDC’s Residences have remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic and students can apply to live in one of several Residences located on the College’s main campus for the 2021/2022 academic year. RDC’s Residence Administration team will continue to create a comfortable home-away-from-home for students while adapting protocols to ensure everyone remains as healthy and safe as possible.
The health and safety of RDC’s students, faculty, staff, and visitors remains paramount in the College’s planning. Red Deer College continues to monitor the pandemic and adjust its operations accordingly. To help students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders stay safe on-campus, there are a variety of updates and COVID-19 resources available online.
“It has been very impressive to reflect on how our College and community have been resilient this past year and continue to collaborate and persist through the challenging times of the pandemic,” says Nunoda. “With everyone’s diligence, we will continue to work at keeping everyone in our College community safe by following Alberta Health Services (AHS) and RDC health and safety protocols.”
On April 20, 2021, students will be able to view RDC’s 2021/2022 Timetable, which will identify the method, or choice of delivery, of courses, labs, shops and seminars for Fall 2021 Term. Current students can begin registering in courses starting on May 4, 2021. RDC’s new students can start to register on May 18, 2021.
