Roxanne Martin (Business Administration, Marketing, 2020) started the @reddeereats Instagram to share her love of local restaurants. We've been fans for a long time and, through Red Deer Eats, Roxanne has invited central Albertans to celebrate new restaurant openings, launch seasonal menus, visit food festivals and learn more about the growing craft beer and small batch distillery scene in our region.  The account celebrates our exciting local food and beverage scene, an industry that has been hit hard by COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

"I started my blog before I attended RDC and, to be honest, I have Red Deer Eats to thank for helping to realize that my passion is Marketing. It really gave me the nudge to go back to school, and then RDC's Business Administration Diploma - Marketing Program helped to bring additional structure and depth to my blog," says Roxanne. Over the past few years, the reach of Red Deer Eats has grown tremendously and Roxanne has been on location to support the launch of dozens of new menu items or to remind locals about restaurants they haven't been to in a while.

"I decided later in life to go back to school to obtain my Diploma. I'm so glad I did! RDC changed my life. My time at Red Deer College has been crucial in helping me achieve my career goals. I learned a lot and was provided networking opportunities that have opened doors that would otherwise have been closed. I made life long friends and have so many memories," she says. In addition to her classmates and study buddies, Roxanne has also stayed connected to the RDC Alumni Association by serving on an event committee

Last year, she joined the Fine Wine and Food Tasting committee, an opportunity that fit her passion and expertise perfectly. While the event was ultimately cancelled due to COVID-19, Roxanne's contributions to the event were significant, and we can't wait to have her back for the next event. "I loved my time at RDC. I am extremely proud to be engaged with the RDC Fine Wine & Food Tasting, and to raise money for student scholarships, alumni events and other opportunities. I can't wait for the world to return to normal so we can all gather again over amazing local food and drinks and raise money for an important cause like this one," she said.

Recently, Roxanne invited fans and followers to share the local bars and eateries they were most looking forward to visiting when the industry restrictions are eased. Flip through the Now Open Instagram story highlight in the app, or click here to view in your web browser, to learn about some new hot spots, remember some old favorites, or just to share some love with these local businesses.
