ConvocationRDC grants its students more than $1,000,000 in awards and scholarships annually! Review and apply for our current opportunities below and check back often to ensure you're taking advantage of your award opportunities year-round!

The RDC award opportunities currently accepting applications are listed below. Please peruse RDC’s full list of awards and scholarships and contact the RDC Student Connect Centre should you have any questions.


General Awards Application

By completing this application, you are applying for the vast majority of RDC awards and scholarships!

  • New and Prospective Students – Please note you must first apply to RDC and receive your Loop username and password in order to complete the General Awards Application.
  • Apprentices – Please note you must have registered for a technical training period for the current academic year (August 2020 – July 2021) in order to complete the General Awards Application.

Deadline to apply: May 31, 2021

Award winners will be notified via email to their RDC email address. Be sure to check your RDC email regularly and keep your contact information up to date with RDC to ensure you do not miss out on any award notifications.


Red Deer College Building on Excellence Academic Award: Fall 2021

Who said there is no such thing as free money? If you are a current high school student planning to attend a credit program at RDC next fall, with an average of 85% or higher in five 5-credit grade 11 or grade 12 subjects, you could get $1,000 awards towards your tuition. It's easy to apply:

Beginning October 1, 2020:

  • Email your transcript or Detailed Academic Report to studentconnect [at] rdc [dot] ab [dot] ca
  • Be sure to provide an up-to-date email address and phone number with the above
  • Please note transcripts/Detailed Academic Reports will not be accepted prior to October 1

There are limited scholarships to be awarded. Be sure to apply early!


Red Deer College Student Bursary

If you will be attending a credit program at RDC in Fall 2021, you can apply for the RDC Student Bursary to assist with the cost of tuition! Full-time student awards are valued at $1,500 each and part-time student awards are valued at $750 each. The number of bursaries to be awarded is limited – do not delay, apply today!

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Open to all new and continuing students in an RDC credit program.
  • New students must receive clear or conditional admission to an RDC credit program for Fall 2021

Bursary recipients will be notified at their RDC email address.

RDC Safety Scholarships for Apprentices

RDC apprentices are encouraged to complete safety assessments in Blackboard in order to be assessed for safety scholarships.

In order to apply, you must have registered in a technical training period for the current academic year.

To access the assessments, log in to your Blackboard account using your Loop username and password. Under "My Courses" select "Safety Assessment for Trades Scholarship". Choose from the 5 modules: Hazard Assessment, Noise & Hearing Protection, Workplace Inspection, Incdent Investigation, and Naloxone. Once you enter a subject area, you will be provided with various safety information and external links for practice tests. When you are ready to proceed with completing the assessment, select the module at the bottom of the subject area content entitled "TEST". By achieving a minimum grade of 80% on two safety assessments you will be assessed for all Apprenticeship Safety Scholarships!

Jason Lang and Louise McKinney Scholarships

 Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be continuing in full-time post-secondary studies
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
  • Must be an Alberta resident
  • Must have completed 24 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.2 (to meet Jason Lang eligibility) or 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.7 (to meet Louise McKinney eligibility) over the previous two terms (not including Spring)
  • Students can only receive one of these scholarships per academic year
  • A maximum of 3 Jason Lang and/or Louise McKinney scholarships can be acquired in a student's academic lifetime

Current RDC students meeting the above criteria will be notified via email to their RDC email addresses over the summer months. Nominees are required to complete the application linked in this email in order to be considered for the awards. 

Students who have transferred to other institutions (including those currently enrolled in collaborative programs at RDC) must contact the Financial Aid Office at their current institution in order to discuss their Jason Lang and Louise McKinney Scholarship process.
