Power Engineering Theory


These courses have been developed to meet the requirements of the Safety Codes Act and Power Engineers Regulation, and are a required step towards obtaining a Power Engineering Certificate of Competency in Alberta.

You will learn

  • To prepare for the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) Provincial Power Engineering Examinations
  • Principles of mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, boiler construction, combustion, controls, instumentation, boiler systems, pumps and compressors, boiler safety and operations, plant maintenance, water treatment, refrigeration

Program format

  • Students should always consult the ABSA website at for the latest information about Power Engineering certification requirements
  • Textbook requirements: students must order the most current textbooks or e-books through Pan Global online at The School of Continuing Education will contact all registered students one month prior to the course start date with specific information regarding required textbooks.
