International Mentorship Program
Find a Mentor
Red Deer Polytechnic's International Mentorship Program connects new international students with continuing students who provide support as new students transition to life in Canada and RDP.
New international students ("Mentees") will be paired with continuing RDP students ("Mentors") based on similar programs and/or interests.
The mentorship program seeks to foster a welcoming environment where students can share their experiences and expand their network.
Information for Mentors
To be eligible to volunteer as a Mentor, students must:
Be a current RDP student (domestic or international)
Have completed a minimum of one term of study at RDP
Be in good academic standing (Minimum GPA of 2.0)
Be able to commit 20 hours per academic year (1 year commitment)
Students interested in volunteering as a Mentor must complete an application form
Mentors will be selected based on availability, fit and commitment to the program
Why Volunteer?
Learn about other cultures and interact with student from diverse backgrounds
Develop valuable intercultural communication, leadership and event planning skills
Receive a letter of reference from RDP International with a minimum of 20 hours commitment to the International Mentorship Program for the academic year
Earn a co-curricular record on your official transcript with a minimum of 20 hours commitment to the International Mentorship Program per academic year
Get involved in your community and make the most out of your experience at RDP

Any new international student (over 18+ years old).
Why should I join?
Learn about Canadian culture and improve your English-speaking skills
Receive casual peer-advice from a fellow Polytechnic student about your courses, campus life and things to do in Red Deer and central Alberta
Attend social events/activities organized by RDP International where you can meet other students
